Photo Essay: Maker Faire Rocks!

Innovation was the name of the game as this past weekend saw hundreds of mad inventors and tens of thousands of watchers descend on Dearborn for Metro Detroit's first ever Maker Faire. There was a life-sized version of Mousetrap, flame-spewing vehicles, singing fish and the world's largest Coke meets Mentos experiment. Metromode's Dave Lewinski was there to capture it in all its crazed glory!

Danotek Knows Which Way The Wind Blows

If you want to know which way the alternative energy market is blowing consider this: wind power installations grew 40% last year. Canton-based Danotek is certainly paying attention. The clean tech company recently recruited a new CEO from Chicago and is aggressively developing, producing, and marketing its cutting edge turbine technology.

METROMODE RADIO: Michigan's Power Grid's Command Central

In February, Governor Granholm formed a wind advisory panel. It's a diverse group from industry, government and academia. The group will tell the Governor that Michigan's power plants are old. They need replacing. But not with coal. Instead go out on the Great Lakes and look for wind. Michigan Now's Chris McCarus talks with one of the panel members. (more >)

With Michigan Public Act 295 the state must obtain 10% of its energy from renewable sources by 2015. As the wind turbine blades turn, alternative energy employment is becoming a vast new horizon for the region. Mary Templeton, an Executive VP at Wind Energy Consulting and Contracting, explains her career switch from the auto industry to renewable energy, and Michigan's efforts to foster talent in this new field.
