Detroit's longest running jazz club got its start back in 1934 and is still swinging strong today. Some of the world's finest jazz musicians have played here: John Coltrane, Oscar Peterson, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Dave Brubeck, Ella Fitzgerald. These days, cozy booths, candlelit tables, and Italian tile that has the highest acoustic rating in the world mix to create a setting appropriate for romantics and the avid jazz listener. Décor includes a piano-shaped bar with faux piano keys, and Harry Carew murals depicting famous jazz clubs around the country. Hipsters and old-school jazz lovers frequent Baker's every day of the week except Mondays – the only day of the week that they're typically closed. The cuisine is soul food. $6 lunch specials are offered daily. You might not catch a live show during lunch, but you'll still catch the overall vibe.
