Miles Putnam

I serve on the investment committee for a local money manager. Our firm invests about $300 million for about 200 clients. Half our client base comes from Michigan, with the other half peppered across the country. Our main focus is domestic growth equities. We also have a growing business in municipal bonds. I mainly follow companies in the retail and technology sectors.

There's more money in Southeast Michigan than people often assume. The auto industry made a lot of people rich over the years, and a good amount of that money is still here. The investment finance industry isn't nearly as developed here as, say, Chicago, but I'd bet that it's on the way up.

I work alongside the interactive marketing specialist to create effective and unique online marketing strategies. Managing and updating our various clients’ social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, with content is a daily task. Additionally, I generate keyword driven content, including blogs, and optimize them throughout client websites. I don't look at it as work because of how much fun and enjoyment I get out of it. Core3 is a great company to work for - everyone is hard working and dedicated, but most of all we have fun and love what we do.

Radio Disney is the local marketing arm of The Walt Disney Company. By leveraging powerhouse Disney assets across multiple platforms, including the Disney Channel, Disney Pictures, Disney Junior and more, Radio Disney creates positive on-site experiences for Metro Detroit Families aligned with internationally recognized and beloved content!

Not many people can truly say that they love their job, so I know that I am extremely fortunate that I do. In my position, I am in charge of all marketing, events and promotions in the Detroit market. I began working at The Walt Disney Company through an internship at Walt Disney World immediately after graduating college. I returned home to Detroit and began working part-time in the Promotion Department at Radio Disney while holding other various marketing positions in the area. When the opportunity to move into my current position presented itself, everything fell into place. I am lucky enough to work with amazing people and for a brand that I am passionate about. The best part of my job is the ability to bring the magic of Disney to our local Families – the pure joy and excitement that they experience makes all of the hard work worth it!

As a digital analyst I’m in charge of Web analytics, SEO (search engine optimization), and lead scoring for digital marketing campaigns. Part of Business Intelligence, I collaborate closely with our strategy team and consult to both clients and partners on various aspects of marketing analytics. Campaigns vary from automotive, healthcare, industrial, sciences, and more. The dynamic nature of these campaigns allow me to continually study a multitude of fields, and share data-driven insight. When schedule allows, I stay up-to-date with industry trends by attending seminars, webinars, and training, which the company encourages.
I learned about Marketing Associates when meeting a former colleague for lunch by Campus Martius. Aside from mutual professional interests, I was impressed with the company’s interest and contribution to the Detroit community. The initiative to support and be involved with non-profits, with a direct impact on our local community starts with our CEO, and is present in the camaraderie of my many colleagues. The positive mindset at the top is key to revitalize Detroit, and makes for a great working environment. And there’s always the beautiful riverfront when you need an analog stroll along our digital world.

After losing my position with an Ann Arbor company and being in sales for several years, I was approached by a Farmers District Manager to become an Insurance Agent with the idea of starting my own Agency. At Farmers, you're in business for yourself - but not by yourself. You have freedom as an entrepreneur, but can lean on the strength of one of the world's most established group of insurance companies. You also have help from a local district manager and corporate personnel. Farmers provides continual support in technology, customer service, marketing and education. From Auto, Homeowners, Life and Business Insurance, I appreciate being able to give and assist my customers with what they want and - more important - what they need for their current situations and their future dreams.

I have always loved cakes, primarily because I find them to be the closest form of edible artwork.  I am thrilled to be involved in creating edible masterpieces that are equally delicious and gorgeous.  I also love that our refrigerator is currently packed with local damson plums so we can make jam for the coming year!  The support of local producers is a clincher for me.

My particular role, as Business Manager of a very small business, is somewhat to be a jack of all trades.  Which means a lot of variety! My main responsibilities include managing orders, maintaining financials in order to optimize business decisions, and marketing.  The part that I really love, which includes all of the above, is strategic planning: where are we going, and how are we going to get there?  That is so exciting!

My position at Group Golfer as Social Media Coordinator includes consistently growing the company online as well as through publicity in each region as we expand forward. As an avid golf enthusiast myself, this opportunity came to me at a time when I truly needed a refreshing and inspirational change of pace. After graduating college, finding a position in the golf arena in Michigan was looking hopeless. The offers to relocate for this industry specific work seemed appealing but my desire to stay in state with my family prevailed. I spent the past 3 years in general marketing positions but nothing that I could really be passionate about. After becoming a GroupGolfer customer and watching them rapidly grow for roughly a year, it occurred to me that I should look into a position at the company. After the sudden epiphany of pursuing a position, I realizing they were located only minutes from my front door, applied online and landed myself a position. The rest is yet to come! Just like other daily deal sites but with a focus on golf, GroupGolfer uses collective buying power to negotiate discounts with popular golf businesses. Subscribers can get email alerts on the latest deal and the deal only becomes active after a minimum number of people agree to buy, thus making it both beneficial to the course and customer alike. Working with a company that serves to nurture the growth of the wonderful game of golf is something I am energetic about and I look forward to growing in my new position.

Prior to obtaining the job at Rehmann, I worked for a small CPA firm that performed basic accounting, consulting and tax functions.  My desires to focus solely on tax lead me to Rehmann where I work in the tax consulting group. The majority of my time is spent assisting companies of all sizes and industries calculate and document the Research and Development Tax Credit incentive.  Other specialties that I am involved with are Energy tax incentives and general Federal tax compliance for individuals and businesses.  I work directly with Owners, CFO's, Controllers, Tax Directors and Employees to learn about their business and understand the new and improved products that are currently under development.

I came to Rehmann for many reasons including, better opportunities to flourish as a CPA, a great work-life balance so I can spend time with my wife and four kids, but most of all Rehmann is a Michigan company.  It was founded in Saginaw, MI in 1941 and has grown all throughout Michigan the "right way," meaning, bigger is not always better.  Additionally, as I am finding out the people who work for Rehmann are great all the way from the professional support staff to the Principals.

I chose to focus on taxation because I feel that my consulting can add value to Rehmann's clients by managing their tax attributes and that gives me the satisfaction that I helped the client instead of merely inputting numbers into a form or producing a financial statement.  Being an advisor to clients and focusing on client relationships is key to the success of any business.

I was lucky enough to move back to Michigan in 2011 as part of the Detroit Revitalization Fellows Program, a network of professionals working to build capacity, foster collaboration, and accelerate progress across organizations engaged in revitalizing Detroit. As part of this program, I am employed by the Community Investment Support Fund (CISF), a non-profit subsidiary of Larson Realty Group. CISF is an emerging Community Development Financial Institution, providing below-market-rate loans as well as technical assistance to non-profit organizations that serve low-income communities.

My job is incredibly rewarding, allowing me to work with institutions that enhance the livability of our community and develop creative capital structures that ensures their sustainability. A major component of my position involves actively fundraising to capitalize the fund that allows CISF to make these investments into community projects. In my day to day work, I also draw from skills developed during my two years with a management consulting firm in Washington, DC, which have become useful in finding solutions for CISF's clients and to develop our organizational capacity.

I spent two years working in economic development in Pittsburgh, a city often described as being a model for Detroit, but always intended to bring lessons learned there back to Michigan as I build my career. I couldn't ask to be in Detroit at a better time or to be exposed to a more inspiring network of individuals working to make a difference in our community.

Heather Anne Leavitt

My love for cake design stems from an education in art, a passion for food, and a childlike refusal to believe that there is anything I cannot create. While attending the University of Michigan School of Art and Design, I packed up my paintbrushes and headed to Florence for a semester abroad. Though I had hoped that immersing myself in the realm of the Italian masters would rub off on my artistic prowess, I found myself more interested in the perfect foam atop my cappuccino. I began to cook, and realized that I loved it. My time in Italy began to revolve around trips to the local market, home-cooked multicourse dinners with my roommates, and weekend pilgrimages to sample different types of regional cuisine.

Upon returning to the States, my newfound passion for food seeped into my art making. For my art school thesis, I dedicated myself to forming the same connection to food in Michigan that I had experienced in Italy. After working with food producers and artisans in the Ann Arbor area, I created a series of edible monuments to honor each one.

Since graduating in 2007, I have had the to opportunity to work with Eve Aronoff as a cook at eve the Restaurant, as well as with Courtney Clark of Cake Nouveau on a series of Food Network Challenges. Both experiences have been influential in developing who I am as a cook and an artist.

I love what I do, and look at each new cake as a challenge to create something beautiful that will make someone’s day.

I am currently responsible for managing Lincoln brand digital projects. My role is to lead projects from ideation through launch. My projects include websites, enterprise site updates, sweepstakes sites, mobile sites, iPAD sites and game integrations. I work with teams that include: Digital Strategists, Information Architects, Creative Directors, Art Directors, Copywriters, Flash Developers, Tech Leads and Quality Assurance analysts.

One of my favorite things about being a Project Manager is working with such a wide variety of disciplines and subject matter experts. I feel I’ve learned a ton about the digital space during my time at Team Detroit. Since digital is constantly evolving, there are always new things to learn.

I was originally contacted by Team Detroit, (TDI), after graduating MSU regarding a Digital Intern position. The primary reason I like TDI is the people. There is very good collaboration and knowledge sharing between Project Managers and across all disciplines. There is a lot of pride in what we produce, and TDI celebrates great work. The clients I’ve worked with include: Ford, Lincoln, Starfish Family Services, SIRIUS Satellite Radio. I’m looking to continue to grow as a Digital Project Manager at TDI and see where it takes me.

While I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career in science, during my PhD work I found that the parts of working as a researcher that I enjoyed the most were the communication aspects: analyzing, writing and presenting.  I also knew that while I love learning, teaching and speaking about science, I did not enjoy hands-on lab work.  I began to research career options and discovered many articles about medical writing.  I tried my hand at a few freelance gigs during graduate school, and I enjoyed the work so much that I decided to become a full-time freelancer after graduation this past August.  This was also a perfect opportunity for me to relocate back to my home state of Michigan, since I only work from home.

My job consists of writing and editing various types of media for medical communication companies, academic medical centers and researchers and publication companies.  I help my clients to create slide decks, manuscripts, needs assessments, continuing medical education (CME) materials, sales force training modules, patient information materials and posters.  I love the variety of not only the different projects that I work on, but also the many different subject areas that I get to write about.  One day I may be writing about cancer therapies, and the next day I am writing about autoimmune disorder treatment strategies.  The other great aspect of this job is that I get to work from home, according to my own schedule.  This career is a perfect fit for me and I am happy to say that I finally am working my dream job!

Upon graduating from Central Michigan University, I interviewed with various companies, focusing on project/account management within marketing agencies. Getting an interview is the easy part – the hard part is finding a company with an opportunity that is a right fit for you. After interviewing at Shift Digital, who I discovered on LinkedIn, I felt I had found my niche. They are a growing company that provides digital marketing and fulfillment for major Automotive OEM’s and other National brands. Shift Digital has many positives; there are opportunities to grow within the organization, and I have supervisors that care about my professional development and success. In addition I’m very pleased to stay in the metro Detroit area.

I first became interested in becoming a QA analyst while in college. I had a few courses in Software Testing and one of my teachers was also QA Analyst. I really enjoyed the meticulous detail that went into the job and I really enjoyed all the documentation that went along with it. I have been doing QA for 5+ years now and it is still a very satisfying career. As a Quality Assurance analyst, you are responsible for making sure that all services and products are of quality and meet the client needs.  I was born and raised here in the Detroit Metro area and while I did move away for a while to live in Atlanta, GA. I returned not long ago to finally settle down here. That was always the plan and always my goal. I know there is a lot of skepticism about finding work here in the metro area, but I did not have that problem and I found a lot of work when I returned. I actually found my current job by applying on craigslist.org. I’m working as a Quality Assurance analyst at MRM Worldwide. I have been working here for about 5 months. I really enjoy working here not only because of the location which is in the beautiful city of Birmingham, MI right in the downtown area. But also because of our products. It is very exciting to be able to see and work with some of the most cutting edge technology that we use every day. It’s very enjoyable and I never get bored!

I am a junior attorney in a busy immigration law firm. I decided that I would be well situated to the field of immigration law because of my background and the opportunity working in this position would allow me to connect with my community here in Metro Detroit. I recently moved back into the area after living in the Lansing area for a few years and was thrilled to find something close to Detroit and the area I grew up around. I took a step outside the box and decided to draft a cover letter that really connected with why I wanted to be an Immigration Attorney and how I thought I would be well suited for the area. I had little experience in the Immigration Law Field and knew it would be a long shot but I sent my resume around to what seemed like every Immigration Attorney and Law Firm in the Detroit area. Instantly responses of support, and regret that there were no opportunities flowed in, as well as some requests for more information and eventually interviews. I was willing to start at the bottom and work my way up, having little experience and just starting out in the legal profession I was ready to do what I had to do, especially in this economy. I am currently working at a busy and knowledgeable Immigration Law Firm in Farmington Hills, Michigan. We serve clients in a variety of Immigration law related issues. From family based to corporate immigration law and we can provide our services worldwide, which was very appealing to me.

The Senior Attorneys at my firm have more than 20 years experience and have been great in offering me comprehensive training and opportunity for professional growth. I am very happy with my decision to remain in Metro Detroit, and look forward to the opportunity to grow as a young professional with this great state and metropolitan area.

hyperLOCAL Connections is my second, and now primary, venture. I am a "lean" startup enjoying the lean methodology to find market-fit for my idea. My startup is centered around the concept of city-wide loyalty campaign promoting the 'Buy Local' movement.  As founder of BuyLocalAnnArbor.com, I am 'discovering' the solution through customer development, a minimum viable product, interviews, iterations and pivots - all relatively fun stuff.  Until something amazing happens I've placed my architectural career into a holding pattern of sorts, but hope to get back into it after the economic dust has settled.

I worked as a Journalist for several years but moving to the US in 2008 put my life to a different perspective. I was looking for a way of expressing myself and the universal visual language of photography offered me a perfect creative outlet. After a couple of years of studying photography and assisting on sets in San Francisco, I relocated to Ann Arbor and decided to open my own photography studio. In my work as a wedding and event photographer, I am the observer, not the creator to an existing scene. I use visual language to tell stories and I pride myself in being able to capture the personalities of my clients. I had the opportunity to photograph celebrities on the Venice Film Festival`s red carpet this September 2011 and traveling, quite frankly, is the best part of my job.

I was very excited to have the opportunity to interview with CIBER. I found the position posted on LinkedIn and had my fingers crossed since my recruiting background was not in IT. I was very blessed to have received an offer and excited to start a new recruiting adventure! As a recruiter with CIBER I work on a team with twenty plus recruiters across the US. I am responsible for recruiting top notch IT professionals across a wide range of areas in the Technology industry. My job involves a lot more than waiting for someone to apply to a job posting. If I want to be successful, I need to go out and find the talent CIBER is looking for. I love what I do; it is a challenge, it is competitive and I get to meet new people every day. It is a great feeling when I match a candidate to their career!

I chose to work for CIBER because the company is growing, the office environment is cool, it is global, and it is full of innovative, talented, hard working fun people. At CIBER initiative, creativity and hard work will take an employee as far as we want to go! The company encourages new ideas, new approaches, and new abilities and believes an entrepreneurial atmosphere is a part of what makes a company a highly motivating place to work. It is never boring here!  Luckily, CIBER has an office in Southfield; I am a huge advocate of rebuilding Detroit and have no desire to leave Michigan anytime soon. There is so much going on in the city of Detroit right now and Michigan is an absolutely beautiful state.

They say journalism is no longer a field for finding your dream gig. They're wrong. I was recently hired by MLive.com, Michigan's largest news website (supporting the state's stable of Booth Newspaper titles), to cover arts and entertainment in Metro Detroit. While most MLive.com sites work in concert with a local newspaper, MLive Detroit is a different kind of idea -- providing round-the-clock news coverage without an accompanying print publication.

I function as the Detroit entertainment section's blogger, editor and photographer all-in-one (with the help of my supremely awesome news teammates, from whom I'm learning tons of cool stuff). I focus on Michigan artists, local events, trends in dining and living, and riffs on the local media. At any given time, you might find me posting a new video, shooting photographs of a touring artist downtown, covering a hearing for a local business, or sounding off my opinions -- often, all in the same day.

I probably wasn't ever on MLive's radar for candidates, until I wrote the editor-in-chief an incredibly impassioned letter about what I would do if I had the entertainment beat for his website. It took a while, but he remembered it and emailed me when a position became available. My advice? When you want a job, don't just talk about your resume. Tell them your ideas. That's what they're hiring you for, anyway.

As a Health and Benefits Consultant the main function of my job is to analyze and suggest insurance options and alternatives to our clients based on their specific wants and needs. Although Aon is a global corporation, the Southfield Health and Benefits office consists of only eight individuals. Working with such a small group has given me the opportunity to get one-on-one attention from experts in the field and expand my knowledge of the industry immensely. My favorite part about working as a consultant is the constant interaction I have with clients and the ability to assist them in the often confusing and ever-changing world of employee benefits.

I discovered my job online, but what made the difference in getting it was that I connected with a former employee on LinkedIn who just happened to share a network with me from my 19 years in Japan.

What I love most about the work that I do at Asahi Kasei Plastics is the challenge of creating messages and strategies that stick.  My sales background has been useful in this task, as I am constantly evaluating our marketing efforts to better understand what messages are getting attention and ultimately driving sales.

I am also leading a website redevelopment project that incorporates strategies to help current and prospective clients to more easily connect and engage with our organization.  Our website changes also include a broader more comprehensive strategy with social media efforts as well.

Last but not least, it has been a lot of fun to work at a multicultural company.  Though my Japanese was a little rusty on my initial arrival to the company, it has improved considerably over a very short amount of time.  My latest adventures in language entail learning Spanish to better support and serve the growth we are seeing in our Latin American markets.

Doodle Home is an online interior design and luxury home furnishings destination for consumers, designers and manufacturers. We give consumers inspirational and educational tools, a personally curated selection of luxury products and will connect them with interior designers upon request. We give designers a platform to reach new clients, additional exposure and are announcing a few more tools in the next few months. Lastly, for the manufacturers and showrooms, we provide access to new audiences through a new channel while still preserving their brand values.

Finding this job was like a dream come true! I get to mix my passion for design and love of marketing at the same time. As Director of Sales and Marketing, I work on all of our marketing, advertising and social media campaigns as well as our website content. Since we are a new business, there are so many opportunities out there for us – it’s finding the right ones that are the right fit. I was recently asked to describe “my typical day” and I had to laugh… there is no “typical day” at Doodle Home!  Every day is different and rewarding in its own way – I’m constantly learning and NEVER bored.

We recently moved into our new office in the Madison Building (which we designed!) downtown Detroit with other Quicken Loan family companies such as Detroit Venture Partners and Detroit Labs.  The city is so alive right now and there is so much to do; it’s been such a great time!

The best career advice I could give anyone is to go after what you love. I was in a job that I was unhappy in but afraid to leave because I kept hearing no one was hiring because of the economy. When I was forced to look elsewhere, I found Doodle Home. Now I get to go to work every day, doing what I love, surrounded by great people.  It can’t get much better!

I'm a Michigander, through and through!  Having spent most of my life and many vacations in this lovely state, I have an intense desire to not only see good things happen here, but to be a part of that story.  Michigan is such an amazing place that I have trouble imaging myself leaving and Ypsilanti a gem, often overlooked. I've known about Growing Hope since moving to the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area in 2006 for school and have since made sure to check out what exciting things this amazing organization has going on, from their youth programs to the Downtown Ypsilanti Farmer's Market and the Growing Hope Center urban demonstration farm to their Garden Leadership Training course.  Once I was alerted to an opening, I jumped at the opportunity to join the Growing Hope team and thankfully they felt I was a good fit!  I'm beyond excited to be working to increase opportunities for healthy food access and food consumption in the Ypsilanti area by working with residents to grow their own food.  It is such a powerful experience. My job specifically is in managing the youth programs including after school clubs, summer camps, a youth internship program and gardening programs around residential raised bed installations and leadership training for community gardeners, in addition to doing some work on program evaluation.

Company: Growing Hope

My main role as Community Partnership Specialist is to make YDB’s presence known in Detroit and beyond. Whether it’s through social media, press releases or speaking engagements, I serve as YDB’s public relations arm. In addition, I’m currently organizing YDB’s annual fundraiser and talent competition, Showdown in Motown (September 23 at the Majestic Theatre!) and coordinate all community service projects for students and staff.

I actually moved back to the Metro Detroit area after graduation to further my job search when I found this job posting on the Internet. It’s very rewarding to give back to the city where I was born and raised, helping others to make a change in their lives for the better.

The hours are long and because my position is funded through AmeriCorps, the pay isn’t great, but I’m learning new skills that will last me a lifetime.  What I like most about this job is it’s never redundant. Everyday brings a new lesson, a new challenge, new people.

It’s not about who you know; it’s about who knows you! I landed the job through a Twitter connection. One of my followers (we’ve never actually met!) knows a recruiter at Doner. After I graduated from MSU, he asked me if I was looking for a job and if I’d be interested in the Detroit area. I was definitely interested and landed the interview and the job shortly after! I mainly work on logo design, rebranding, and print collateral for clients like ADT, Things Remembered, The UPS Store, and the Detroit Historical Society. I moved to Royal Oak because it’s the center of a lot of activity in the area and it’s not too far from work.

As an Admissions/Transfer Counselor, my responsibilities are to manage and evaluate prospect students, recruit and maintain contact with UDM applicants, and present and recruit at  community colleges and community events.  In addition, I am also responsible for guiding prospective students through the admission process, which includes meeting with students to communicate academic requirements, explain financial aid processes, and make admission decisions.

I chose to work in higher education because I enjoy helping and building a relationship with students throughout all stages of their college experience, from admission to graduation.

I am mostly excited about this position because I get to work in the great city of Detroit.  I am excited to work in this city during such an exciting time of change, and because I’m a believer in keeping young, educated professionals in metro-Detroit to help rebuild a struggling economy.

I grew up in Ypsilanti, went East for college/grad school, and was teaching high school in Monterrey, Mexico when I got this job offer. I specifically chose to come to the City of Detroit to work with Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice because I was (and still am) excited about Detroit's opportunity to leapfrog to the forefront as a model sustainable city, but doing so in a way that is inclusive, equitable, healthy, and grows wealth from the inside. Being in Detroit is like being in a constant state of discovery into the past and the future - there is a wealth of both history and innovation. I feel so connected to this city - through the embrace of my neighbors George and May, volunteering with the Mercy Education Project, learning about what it was like to grow up in Detroit in the 80s and 90s from my coworkers, helping out hip hot young food entrepreneurs, advocating for progressive principles through Declare Detroit, meeting die-hard been-through-everything community development warriors through my job, getting reprimanded by the 60s era activists down the block, hearing stories about the rise of New Detroit from a respected mentor, getting to know other Detroiters through the Detroit City Futbol League... I could go on. I love this city - as a planner, as an urbanist, as a do-gooder, as a curious person, as someone who loves interesting stories, different cultures, team sports, creativity, and supporting really cool, inventive ideas.

Having grown up in the Metro Detroit area, I have always had a passion for the bustling nature of the city.  While attending the University of Detroit Mercy I participated in the Polish study abroad program where I was exposed to a completely different style of life and culture.  There I came to realize the true meaning of urban living, historic preservation, and adaptive reuse.  After graduating in 2008 from UDM's School of Architecture, with my Master's in Architecture, I chose to continue my education at UDM with a second Master's degree in Intelligence Analysis, with a concentration in Crime Prevention through Environmental Design.  I began working for Kraemer Design Group upon completion of my studies in Intelligence Analysis, and is currently in the process of working towards becoming a registered architect.

I have always had a passion for people and organization.  After planning campus wide events in college, and then conferences, seminars, and gatherings in a corporate setting, I decided to go out on my own and indulge in the more creative and personal side of events...weddings.  I love the creativeness and uniqueness of every couple we work with and every event we design.  We offer full planning, partial planning, "day of" coordination services, and hourly assistance.  Design services are priced separately and can be added a la carte to any planning package or purchased on their own.  Prior to starting my company, I worked in the retail indsutry for a year and it taught me so much about customer service and the value of building real relationships.  We view our clients as family, and often end up keeping in touch long after the wedding is over!

I grew up in Ann Arbor, and after meeting my husband and starting our family, we felt like the Metro Detroit area, specifically Ann Arbor, is where we wanted to be, close to our friends and family. Though my business is based in Ann Arbor, I find myself and my team traveling all over Southeastern Michigan to service our clients and plan, design, and coordinate some really awesome weddings!  I feel very fortunate to be able to do what I love.

As a National Account Manager, my role is to represent my client and their needs within my company. I am dedicated to one large account, and I am their first point of contact from a commercial standpoint. I love this client interaction, as it requires me to use my emotional intelligence as well as my technical understanding to link the various departments, both within Amcor and between Amcor and my client. Dealing with the procurement department or engaging the engineering department requires different methods than interacting with the marketing department, and I love this plurality in my role. Internally, I am also responsible for managing my account, driving profitability, and ensuring customer satisfaction. In addition to being a NAM, I am part of Amcor’s competitive Commercial Leadership Development Program (CLDP).

I chose to join Amcor because of their CLDP, the career opportunities it presents, and because of the terrific people who work there. I am part of a team that is absolutely awesome, and part of a company that is dedicated to lead its industry.

Brad Rudner

I get asked this question all the time ... "Brad, what do you do?", and it's always difficult for me to answer because we do so much and it's very complex. We essentially serve as liaisons between varsity athletic programs at the University of Michigan and the public. We do this by handling all external activities as it relates to our website, www.mgoblue.com, and accompanying social media applications (Facebook pages, Twitter accounts). We let the public know what's going on. We promote our coaches, student-athletes and our programs at large. The job is writing-intensive at times, but it combines two of my strengths and hobbies - writing and sports.

I still consider myself to be very lucky to be at Michigan. I applied for an internship a few months before I graduated Iowa, and got one of two positions. After spending a year as an intern learning the ropes, I was promoted to full-time status last August and am now starting my second year in the athletic department (third overall in Ann Arbor).

I love it here. I think Ann Arbor is the penultimate college town. Anything you want to do, you can find it here, and that's extremely appealing to me.

My job involves both research and teaching activities on the subject of Operations Research and Optimization. We abstract data from a range of real-world applications, and model decision making problems using mathematical programming tools. For instance, you can think of an optimization problem arising in personal financial management, in which one needs to design an investment portfolio. A mathematical model seeks an optimal solution that tells an investor the amount and the time for selling and purchasing each investment option, such that the overall expected return over a period of time is maximized. Such a model can be applied not only to financial applications, but to model practical problems in health care, military, transportation, public policy, and so on. Thanks to the University, Ann Arbor is a great place that gathers many professionals from a variety of industries, and offers great opportunities for me to cooperate with other people and apply my theoretical findings. I love my role as a researcher and a teacher, and really hope that my work can contribute to make a better society and to inspire younger generations to pursue a career in math and technology.

Laura Evangelista

As the talent acquisition coordinator at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, my role is constantly evolving. I am a recruiter, an event planner, an interview coordinator and a system administrator. Having graduated with a degree in journalism and a focus on visual communication, I'm very new to talent acquisition. I started as an intern after my graduation from MSU, and the field ended up clicking for me. BCBSM has really stepped up its internship program to include volunteer opportunities with Summer in the City (http://www.summerinthecity.com/) and a social program hosted by After 5 Detroit (http://after5detroit.com/a5/). BCBSM's commitment to not only the social mission of creating a healthier Michigan, but to the development of Detroit as a home for the company registered as something I want to be a part of.

How I landed my job: I met the internship coordinator at an MSU Career Fair and was offered a summer internship after my May 2011 graduation. After my internship I applied to an open position in my department, interviewed, and got the job. My advice: go to career fairs! There is no shame in a post-graduation internship. It's like dating before getting married - ease into the commitment!

I'm really excited to see where this company will take me and how far I can go.

Since I started college at MSU, my goal was to either land an internship or get a job out of college. I ended up landing the job (yay)! I work in the Quality department (or QMS) and we ensure our company is always following and improving our process to maintain our ISO certification. We are also responsible for Technical Training and many other business operations related duties.
