The purpose of my role is to help ensure that our users find our apps to be as valuable and easy to use as possible. I do this by monitoring, responding to, and analyzing user feedback from a variety of channels. I then use that data to propose and advocate for app design and usability enhancements. Rishi S. Jaitly

I work with local leaders to find and invest in opportunities for fostering an informed and engaged Detroit. I possess a wealth of experience working with leaders of all stripes whether at Google, College Summit or Michigan Corps which my wife and I founded.

Countless initiatives, including Michigan Corps, have already demonstrated that a more informed and engaged Detroit can lead to positive, serendipitous change. I’m very excited about this opportunity with the Knight Foundation because the foundation's mission to inform and engage has been my mission as well.

Neda Mirafzali

I was born and raised in southeastern Michigan, so staying in Michigan as a professional seemed only natural.  I’ve seen Michigan go from its glory days to times when “struggling” was the nice way to describe what we were going through.  I believe in Michigan and I believe in Metro-Detroit.

I found my job through networking.  I worked for The Health Law Partners, PC as a summer associate during the Summer 2009 and, at the end of the summer, I was extended an offer as a full-time attorney for after I graduated and took the bar exam.

Being in healthcare law right now couldn’t be a better fit for me.  At the beginning of my career, the world of healthcare law is just beginning to bloom and I get to be at the forefront of all of it, watching it develop and unfold into something new every day.

Madelyn Coleman-Manley

My position is geared at delivering best practices and maintaining a high-standard level of client services. I was brought in to help customize and implement complex CRM applications to manage our clients’ data. I essentially provide a strategic marketing input and provide analysis of client interaction to help my firm better assess and act on the needs and future needs of our clients.  This is the perfect position for me. I have an affinity for Marketing and IS both. This position is my happy medium. I can exercise my knowledge of information systems, while still keeping my career marketing based.

The position was forwarded to me by my mother. I was not actively searching for employment. I was however exploring opportunities that were more career-focused. I choose Rehmann, because I felt that it was the place for me to be. The firm has locations through-out the state of Michigan, Ohio and Florida. This gives me flexibility in my day-to-day location. Though I am based out of our Troy office, my company has an awesome policy on work-life balance, so I have the option to work from our Farmington Hills office. I stay near my hometown of Detroit to be close to my family and friends.

Job Title: CRM & Database Manager
Company: Rehmann
College: Davenport University, Detroit, MI

I have lived in Michigan my entire life and have a passion for the Detroit area.  My job ended at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Henry Ford Estate due to the transfer of ownership of the Henry Ford Estate.  I was contacted in December 2010 by a recruiter who found my resume online and started in March 2011 at Midtown Detroit, Inc.  I am the Administrative/Finance Associate for the Woodward Corridor Initiative.  My position is funded through the Living Cities Integration Initiative for a three year project.  I was hired to provide high-level administrative and finance support to the Woodward Corridor Initiative team but have also taken on much more complex tasks such as creating an Education & Outreach Strategy and grant management for the entire organization.  This job has been a wonderful growth opportunity for me to work in a collaborative environment that allows for creativity and stretch goals.

Ron Rose Productions is a multi-faceted post production audio - video facility.  Ron Rose Productions has spent over thirty years building a national reputation for bringing our clients great ideas to life.  The facility offers services such as audio post, sound design, original music composition, video editing, color grading, visual effects, and duplication services.  The facility is constantly adding new services and portfolios to stay current and vital to the needs of the producers.

I took the Account Manager position in September 2010, I wanted to work in the production side of the advertising business.  Prior to working at Ron Rose-Milagro Post, I was an account executive for five years at the Metrotimes Weekly Alternative paper.  Working at the Metrotimes allowed me to network into my current position.

The ability to work in a creative environment that is constantly changing with technology is very challenging and rewarding.  I work primary with producers from agencies that use the facility to create or manipulate radio advertising, web content or TV/Web spots and corporate videos.

Southeast Michigan is a great area to live and work -- there are great work opportunities and great professionals committed to the area and their careers.

I am so excited to be apart of the Ann Arbor Community. It is an amazing area filled with so many different people, and a lot of them are as passionate about their Health as I am! I believe that being a great doctor isn't about how much we talk to our patients, but how much we listen. You can learn so much if you would ask questions and listen to the answers. I have believed that all my life and find that it is what works best in a Doctor - Patient relationship. As a doctor of chiropractic I am dedicated to helping people live pain free, and providing them with the tools to help them create a better life everyday through health and wellness. Chiropractic is not just a medicine to help those in pain, but it is a preventative to your future health! I look forward to helping my neighbors get on the track to a healthy life, and pain free life, and become an integral part of the Ann Arbor Community and Family's!

I knew a career in the graphic design field was in my future from a very young age. With a drawing pad always nearby, I would sketch anything that grabbed my eye. Later, during high school, I channeled this love for art into a small business designing t-shirts for student groups and athletic teams. This led me to attend the University of Michigan School of Art & Design to get a better understanding of graphic design theory and how I could use it to help people communicate their ideas. During school, I started my own freelance graphic design shop and began to take on several side jobs (whenever pesky homework didn’t get in the way) including a logo design for an airline and a website for a local life science company. Being a freelance graphic designer has allowed me to learn about so many interesting industries and meet some very inspiring entrepreneurs. It has also helped me to improve my graphic and web design skill sets at a much faster pace than when I was just working with one client.

As an Account Manager in Online Sales, I help some of Google's highest-potential advertisers grow their business using Google's products (including search, display advertising, TV, and YouTube). I manage a multi-million dollar book of business and build partnerships with key decision-makers, develop a deep understanding of the advertiser's business model and its customers, and create compelling advertising solutions through customized analysis.

I chose the Metro Detroit area because I was born and raised here and I believe that Detroit and Metro Detroit businesses are detrimental across the nation and am proud to be a part of one of them. I found my job through a referring college friend, but anyone else interested in job openings at Google can visit www.google.com/jobs. Google is known for it's energetic culture, and the Ann Arbor office is no different and I enjoy being able to express my personal interests in my work. Additionally, unlike many other business that have advertising account managers, you don't need to put a certain amount of time under your belt to meet face-to-face with a client, so there is a lot of avenues to grow professional skills and build your career in the direction that you want.

Citizens Insurance is owned by Hanover Insurance, which was just voted one of the best companies to work for by the Boston Globe. I am one of 7 underwriters on my team. We primarily take calls from our partners agents, the ones who write the most and best business. We have to approve, deny, or "tweek" risks based on various eligibility factors. Although that is the main part of my job, on an average day I wear many hats. My department is set up like a call center, and I handle escalated issues from both agents and insureds. These issues can be anywhere from underwriting, billing, processing, or customer service. I am given a lot of autonomy in decision making, and I take ownership in what my team does. Citizens is a great company, with a great training program, and lots of opportunity for growth and development. We just hired 4 new team members, and are always looking for talent.

I am a technical analyst for our Legal team within the corporate division of GE.  My main concentrations are web technologies which include PHP, Javascript, XML, Oracle, and Agile software development.  I interface with internal customers, gather project requirements, communicate with a team of developers, and also build enhancements to a suite of web applications which protect our intellectual property.  It's such an interesting part of the business, and very rewarding to know that I am helping to protect the assets that Thomas Edison first brought to the table in 1877.

I encourage any technical professionals (engineers, scientists, IT, etc...) in the Detroit area to look for employment here at the AMSTC.  It's very cutting edge, has an extremely collaborative nature, and the facility is top notch.  But best of all, GE has concrete (and publicly stated) plans to hire hundreds of professionals over the next 18 months.  It's a great company to work for, and it has to be one of the best in the entire Detroit metro area.
