Job Title: Co-president and Founding Partner
Company: Texts From Last Night
College: Michigan State University, Communication Arts and Sciences, Advertising, East Lansing, MI
High School: University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Detroit, MI

Textsfromlastnight.com began as a way to more effectively share the ridiculous text exchanges that our friends received in the wee hours of the morning when they should have been sleeping and others should just put down their phones. TFLN quickly grew to amass more than 21 million unique visitors, a book with Gotham Publishing to be released in January and a sitcom based on the site currently in development. My role at TFLN is multifaceted. I helped initially with the design, marketing and synthesis of the site, but as it grew so did my to-do list. Now I communicate with our development team, manage ad sales, further market textsfromlastnight.com and our other entertainment properties and occasionally find time to post a text or two. We never expected this to be a job, but my partner Lauren and I are quite pleased that we can call it one.

Job Title: Neighborhood Stabilization Specialist
Company: Michigan State Housing Development Authority
College: Cornell University, College of Human Ecology, Masters in Human Environment & Design, Ithaca, NY
High School: Forest Hills Central High School, Ada, MI

I am working to re-stabilize the residential real estate market in Detroit neighborhoods. In my first month of this Americorps/LISC position I have come into contact with the Detroit Office of Foreclosure Prevention & Response, the Michigan Land Bank Fast Track Authority, and Detroit city officials responsible for the demolition of derelict structures.

It is very exciting to be a part of Detroit's attempts to adapt to the challenges of a shrinking population, the decline of the "big three," and the combination of high-vacancy and low-density residential neighborhoods. A study abroad to the Ruhr region of Germany showed me how areas with similar circumstances can develop their cultural institutions and preserve their identities in spite of these severe problems.

Adrienne Procopio
Job Title: Assistant Account Executive
Company: Franco Public Relations Group
College: Central Michigan University, Bachelor of Applied Arts, Integrative Public Relations, Mount Pleasant, MI
High School: Eisenhower High School, Shelby Township, MI

I love the spontaneity of my job – no matter how planned out my day is, it’s never going to go exactly the way I thought. And with clients in the automotive and technology industry - particularly energy transmission and advanced batteries - I’m constantly learning! I spend about 70%  of my time writing and the rest conducting research, working with media, coordinating events and reading (I monitor for client placements and industry news). My favorite projects include writing/producing corporate brochures and event planning.

My office is very diversified so my co-workers work with clients in the non-profit, healthcare and retail industries, which is great because we all get a taste of each other’s work. We work hard - and sometimes long hours depending on events or large projects - but we always have fun together. A few times a year our bosses host “Franco Frolics,” where they take the whole office out for appetizers and cocktails. It’s just a great way to spend time together outside of work and get to know each other on a more personal level. We have a great family culture here, which makes coming to work that much easier.

High School: Martin Luther King Jr. Senior High School, Detroit, MI

My job is a lot different from Darrin Stevens on Bewitched and extremely different from Angela Bower’s on Who’s the Boss.   My actual job deals with the planning, development and implementation/execution of B2B and Internal Employee Communications marketing strategies and tactics for my assigned client.  In English that means understand your client’s and their competitor’s products and services to develop campaign that generate awareness, drive sales, and inspire conversation.    After all, in order to create an effective ad campaign you have to understand the entire landscape of the marketplace.   I also get to work with a group of really intelligent and entertaining people to explore and understand emerging non-traditional media like Twitter, Facebook, Street Teams, etc. and determine which are best fit for my clients business. I learn something new everyday about the industry, my clients business, and/or a random fact that helps me answer Jeopardy questions.  The best part of my job is seeing our commercials, print ads, or billboard in the actual marketplace.  A campaign can take anywhere from three months to a year to create and seeing the completed product provides something tangible I can point to and say, “I helped create that.”  I love my career and I cannot imagine doing anything else.  After all, what other industry actually pays you to play on Facebook?

Job Title: Sr. Multimedia Art Director / Developer
Company: RingSide Creative
College: Macomb College, Media, Communication Arts, Warren, MI
High School: Henry Ford II High School, Sterling Heights, MI

I'm one of a handful of department heads that lead up the Interactive and Multimedia services that RingSide Creative has to offer. We do everything Interactive from brainstorming, to design, to development and launch. A few of our specialty areas include, but are not limited to, websites, microsites, Flash-based websites and microsites, blogs, social media advertising, banner advertising, rich media advertising, iPhone applications, other mobile phone applications, kiosks, touch-screens, augmented reality, research and development, and much more. I typically end up touching all aspects of our capabilities because I came from an advertising agency background which taught me to become very flexible and willing to learn. Normally I have some influence in the creative direction and design on projects or head it up in a lot of cases. In other instances I might be the lead developer on a project as well, whether the job calls for HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, or any combination of these and beyond. RingSide Creative as a company has quite the assortment of talent in-house. Some of RingSide Creative's talent includes directors, creative editors, finishing editors, audio composers, audio licensing experts, compositors, film specialists, Telecine and color specialists, motion designers, visual effects artists, CGI/3D artists, interactive/multimedia designers and developers, retouching artists, and branding/strategy specialists. This variety is definitely one of the elements that attracted me to RingSide Creative, and it's true to form everyday. They call it an "Integrated Media Studio™" which basically means that every discipline within the company works together to really just make a better end product for the client, and ideally in "one-stop". There are a lot of cases where I may be working on an interactive project and want to spruce up a project a little bit to add some value for the client. In most cases, all of the talent I need is right around the corner. All I have to do is make a quick call or walk down the hallway and talk to the audio department to see what they can do to help me with some custom audio for my project; or stop by the CGI/3D department to see if they could help me out with a project that might benefit from some 3D animation. There are many more instances where being "integrated" proves to be very beneficial and fun as well. In a nutshell, RingSide Creative is quite a talented and inspiring place to work.

I joined the museum staff fresh out of graduate school in May 2005, just as the AANM was opening its doors to the public.   While I never received a formal education in museum studies, I was compelled to join the AANM staff upon learning of the museum and its mission.  As a third generation Arab American, I realized the importance of this institution.  My position at the AANM permits me to simultaneously contribute to the public’s understanding of Arab American culture and history while exploring my own native roots and traditions.  I am proud to say I work at ACCESS, and I am continuously inspired by the work of my colleagues throughout the organization.

Job Title: Advancement Specialist
Company: Focus: HOPE
College: Michigan State University, Master of Arts, Public Relations, East Lansing, MI
High School: Stevenson High School, Livonia, MI

Focus: HOPE is a nonprofit civil and human rights organization serving Metro Detroit whose mission is to pursue "intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty, and injustice."  It was formed by a diverse group of volunteers in the wake of the 1967 civil unrest in Detroit.  Today it offers a food program that feeds 43,000 mothers, pregnant women, children, and senior citizens each month; education and job-training programs in information technologies, engineering, machining, and energy efficiency that lead to certifications and degrees; youth development through the arts; early childcare and preschool; community and economic development; and more.

Even in better economic times, nonprofits must constantly innovate to meet the needs of their clients and keep pace with an ever-evolving society while finding more efficient and  ways to do so.  My job is to identify, research, and pursue government and foundation funding opportunities that align with our mission and programming.  I also steward relationships with legislators, governmental bodies, other nonprofits, the education and workforce development communities, and others. I've worked at Focus: HOPE for three years where I have had opportunities that I never imagined.  One of my favorite things about working in the nonprofit sector is that organizations that do good work attract dedicated, creative, and diverse people to work for them, making work - however hectic it may get sometimes - fun, as well.
