I'm one of a handful of department heads that lead up the Interactive and Multimedia services that RingSide Creative has to offer. I typically end up touching all aspects of our capabilities because I came from an advertising agency background which taught me to become very flexible and willing to learn. Normally I have some influence in the creative direction and design on projects or head it up in a lot of cases. In other instances I might be the lead developer on a project as well, whether the job calls for HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Flash, or any combination of these and beyond. RingSide Creative as a company has quite the assortment of talent in-house. Some of RingSide Creative's talent includes directors, creative editors, finishing editors, audio composers, audio licensing experts, compositors, film specialists, Telecine and color specialists, motion designers, visual effects artists, CGI/3D artists, interactive/multimedia designers and developers, retouching artists, and branding/strategy specialists. This variety is definitely one of the elements that attracted me to RingSide Creative, and it's true to form everyday. They call it an "Integrated Media Studio™" which basically means that every discipline within the company works together to really just make a better end product for the client, and ideally in "one-stop". There are a lot of cases where I may be working on an interactive project and want to spruce up a project a little bit to add some value for the client. In most cases, all of the talent I need is right around the corner. All I have to do is make a quick call or walk down the hallway and talk to the audio department to see what they can do to help me with some custom audio for my project; or stop by the CGI/3D department to see if they could help me out with a project that might benefit from some 3D animation. There are many more instances where being "integrated" proves to be very beneficial and fun as well. In a nutshell, RingSide Creative is quite a talented and inspiring place to work.

In this assignment at GM, I am currently responsible for the performance, testing and validation of safety restraints for all occupants in the rear seat of a future luxury car. I perform modeling analysis of different crash scenarios to assess performance to meet all corporate and federal regulations. These tests help establish a baseline for tuning the vehicle with physical tests. Many of these tests are equiped with instrumented dummies ranging from infants in child seats to adults. I also am responsible for managing all rollover testing for this vehicle. We evaluate various physical tests out at the Milford Proving Grounds. Tests are designed to mimic actual safety incidents on the road ways, such as curb and soil trips, corkscrew, and ditch fall over, in order to assess the restraint performance, as well as provide data from the sensing hardware for all the airbag deployments.

Focus: HOPE is a nonprofit civil and human rights organization serving Metro Detroit whose mission is to pursue "intelligent and practical action to overcome racism, poverty, and injustice." It was formed by a diverse group of volunteers in the wake of the 1967 civil unrest in Detroit. Today it offers a food program that feeds 43,000 mothers, pregnant women, children, and senior citizens each month; education and job-training programs in information technologies, engineering, machining, and energy efficiency that lead to certifications and degrees; youth development through the arts; early childcare and preschool; community and economic development; and more.
Even in better economic times, nonprofits must constantly innovate to meet the needs of their clients and keep pace with an ever-evolving society while finding more efficient and ways to do so. My job is to identify, research, and pursue government and foundation funding opportunities that align with our mission and programming. I also steward relationships with legislators, governmental bodies, other nonprofits, the education and workforce development communities, and others. I've worked at Focus: HOPE for three years where I have had opportunities that I never imagined. One of my favorite things about working in the nonprofit sector is that organizations that do good work attract dedicated, creative, and diverse people to work for them, making work - however hectic it may get sometimes - fun, as well.
