Inches of snow blanketed the metro area Sunday, but shoppers were out in force Monday, as many metro area schools declared a snow day.

Crowds were thick through the afternoon at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi and at the Somerset Collection in Troy. "Today is like a weekend," said Linda McIntosh, director of marketing at Somerset Collection. Parking at the mall was 85 percent full Monday afternoon, much busier than normal for a weekday, even so close to the holidays.
