Forbes browses Glocal's online community forums

It takes a lot of time to sift through info-blasts worldwide. But now a start-up is helping to tailor your interests to your own backyard. 

Excerpt:

"Launched in 2011, Detroit's  Glocal  offers users a tailored local experience via online community forums. It aims to counter a loss of connection with local community that many see as a negative effect of the global hyper-connectedness driven by social media. Techonomy spoke with Glocal President Lincoln Cavalieri about the importance of zooming in on what's happening in your own neck of the woods.

How does Glocal work?

It's a hyper-local community forum for over 150 cities around the world. Members of a local community create categories and forums, write articles,   post videos, and link to local deals, restaurants, events, and such. We also have classifieds, so you can sell your bike and your boat. The community defines what's important to it, and moderators make sure all content is appropriate."

IMG and NEI enter media partnership with New Michigan Media to spotlight Detroit's diversity

Issue Media Group, which owns Metromode, is partnering with New Michigan Media to help tell the growing number of success stories of businesses started by minorities and immigrants in Metro Detroit.

Excerpt:

"The partnership draws attention to the impact ethnic, minority and immigrant communities have on the economy. Over one decade immigrant- founded ventures created 450,000 jobs and represented a market capitalization of roughly $500 billion. Southeast Michigan's immigrant entrepreneurs were six times as likely to start a high-tech firm from 1995-2005, placing the state third compared to all 50 states, and are nearly four times as likely to file an international patent. Michigan ranks eighth out of all 50 states in filing these types of patents. Immigrants are more than three times as likely to start a new business."

ePrize's Linkner debuts at #8 on NYT Best Seller list

As the founder, chairman, and former CEO of the largest interactive promotion agency in the world (ePrize, dontcha know) Josh Linkner has a few ideas about how business can nurture and harness creative thinking. Good thing he jotted those ideas down in his book, Disciplined Dreaming: A Proven System to Drive Breakthrough Creativity.

Even better, said book debuted 8th on the New York Times Best Selling Business Book List.

Fly Delta, learn about Metro Detroit

What's that? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No. It's Metro Detroit, and everything the region is proud of is flying above you in the latest issue of Delta Sky Magazine. The niche publication for Delta Airlines inserted in its planes features a big spread about Metro Detroit and all of its positives. The subjects range from the resurgent auto industry to Jeff Daniels.

Metro Detroit malls appear in New Yorker cartoon

Somerset, Oakland, Westgate, Jackson, and Briarwood malls all made the cut in one of the most recent cartoons in The New Yorker. The cartoonist, Dave Corley, lives in Ann Arbor and received a bachelor's degree in both philosophy and imaginative writing from Eastern Michigan University.

Issue Media Group named to Inc. 5000 list of fastest growing companies in the nation

Did you know that one of the nation's most thriving media companies, Issue Media Group, is based right here in Metro Detroit? The start-up parent of this publication is on the higher end (think 1,000s) of Inc. magazine's latest list of the 5000 fastest growing companies.

Excerpt:

Issue Media Group, number 1,672 on Inc.'s list, has developed many community websites, for places like Detroit and Cincinnati. The sites have original features and contributors' blogs, as well as the neighborhood profiles and event listings you would expect from a community website.
