Xpert Technologies expands workforce by 7, eyes bigger office space

A little more than a year ago Brad Byrnes made a decision. A big one. The president of Xpert Technologies made the jump from a one-man IT operation working out his basement to a small business with multiple employees and its own office in early 2011.

That led to the Sterling Heights IT firm hiring seven people over the last year. Byrnes expects to hire another 2-3 people by the end of this year to accommodate his emerging company's growth. The company is also getting ready to move from its 1,000 square feet of office space into 3,000 square feet that comes complete with elbow room and space enough to think.

"I didn't need to just hire one person," Byrnes says. "I needed to hire a few people for a help desk and other things."

Xpert Technologies
credits its growth to a mix of clients - both big and small. It services the likes of Lionel Trains and some significant defense contractors, along with a slew of small, local businesses.

"We have real large clients and a lot of small 150-employee companies," Byrnes says. He expects to keep growing at this quick pace, but isn't afraid to pump the brakes in the name of quality control.

"We could grow a lot faster but I want to make sure we keep that good personal touch with our customers," Byrnes says.
