Royal Oak's Wellco celebrates 30 percent growth with new hires
metromode, 8/28/2008
Scott Foster is the picture of health on the outside, but the founder of Royal Oak-based
Wellco
isn’t always that healthy.
"I live an almost freakishly healthy lifestyle and I still rely on the medical system," says Foster who has a history of heart disease.
That led him to the inspiration that if he can't live doctor (and medical bill) free then most other U.S. workers can't either. And Wellco was born.
The firm specializes in helping companies create a healthier workforce and consequently cut their medical bills. Wellco uses technology to find ways employees can live healthier lifestyles and prevent sickness and disease. Wellco documents the outcomes and tracks decreases in health costs while watching productivity and morale go up.
"The associated costs (with poor employee health) are crushing companies unless they do something about it," Foster says.
It's an idea that has worked wonders since Foster created the company 11 years ago. It's revenues have grown about 30 percent in the last year and it has hired two new people in the same time. It also has openings for full-time and part-time positions right now.
"We expect to match or even exceed our current level of growth," Foster says. "We have signed some national clients."
