Titan Energy Development was
NextEnergy's first tenant -- and baby is growing up quickly.
The firm, a biodiesel research company, started in 2005 with two employees. The
last time we checked in with Titan, in January 2007, they had five researchers on staff. Now, they are headed onwards and upwards to 30.
What's going so well for the company? Their proprietary development, the Sentry 5000, is a mobile power supply unit that can power homes and/or businesses after a disaster wipes out the powergrid. The Sentry can also purify water and operate communication networks -- making them handy for remote undeveloped areas.
The Sentry is finding an audience in municipalities, the military and government.
Titan is currently working with NextEnergy to create the next generation of Sentries that will be powered by a hybrid approach of batteries partnered with solar and wind power -- decreasing the unit's dependence on fuel.
"We are starting to see
real-world applications of new fuels and power generators now coming into the
marketplace," said James Croce, CEO of NextEnergy, in a statement. "Next generation power
generation is already here with more major advancements coming on-line faster
than anyone could have dreamed."
Titan projects $8.8 million in revenue this year; orders for 12 Sentries have already been placed.
