SACS of LIFE makes sustainability fashionable

No good deed goes without a profit. When it comes to the trend of using canvas grocery bags over paper and plastic, SACS of LIFE is one of those profiteers.

Annette Ferber Adelman started the Walled Lake-based company last year as a way to sell fashionable versions of the sustainably trendy cloth bags. Today SACS of LIFE provides paychecks for three people and a handful of interns and independent contractors.

"We wanted to make shopping more convenient and stylish by eliminating the plastic," Adelman says. "If we're going to eliminate plastic we might as well do it with style."

Her stylish bags have made it into local businesses and big chains, like STAPLES and Bed Bath & Beyond. SACS of LIFE products are even sold as far west as Colorado.

Adelman looks to extend the firm's reach by selling the bags even further away. As orders and profits pile up, it plans to hire a few more people.
