Parallax Production Studios signs $60 million film deal with New Castle Entertainment
metromode, 4/2/2009
Southfield's
Parallax Production Studios
has landed a large contract with
New Castle Entertainment
. The $60 million deal promises to bring more movies, investment and jobs to Metro Detroit.
"As the projects come our way, we're going to undoubtedly add staff," says Robert Striks, director of marketing for Parallax Studios. "This (the film industry investment) is still in its infancy stage but it's growing rapidly. It changes almost by the day. It's a great opportunity for Michigan."
Parallax Studios got its start seven months ago, shortly after Michigan passed generous tax incentives for the film industry. The company employs 10 people and a handful of independent contractors, and can expand to 20-40 people when a movie comes in.
"A lot of this growth will be project based, but that's the nature of a film studio," Striks says.
Parallax has a 24,000-square-foot studio in Southfield. New Castle has already done several projects at Parallax's studio, including the recent wrap of the movie
Intent
. The new deal means that another dozen movies will be filmed there over the next two years. New Castle has two more movies set to begin filming this year, including
Mr. Microphone
and
Forsaken
.
