OpTech hires 100-plus IT workers, engineers on auto growth

OpTech is riding high as the automotive industry resurges, creating about 100 jobs in IT and engineering over the last year.

The 13-year-old IT firm moved from downtown Detroit to Troy last fall and now employs close to 200 people. It's planning to add a handful of interns this summer.

"We have been growing like gangbusters," says Ronia Kruse, CEO of OpTech. "Over the last 13 years we have grown significantly except for one year."

OpTech works to improve productivity through improving software processes and making other tech aspects more efficient. It has three main areas of focus: the automotive industry, the financial sector and the federal government. Those three markets have allowed OpTech to grow by 60 percent last year, adding 20 new clients. The company is on the path to raise its revenue by more than 200 percent this year.

Leading that growth is the automotive industry's dramatic recovery. "That has really spearheaded our growth," Kruse says. She expects the continued growth of that sector to continue and allow OpTech to increase its staff. "We're hiring a lot of people in 2012," Kruse says. "A lot of them will be in the automotive space."
