metromode, 3/16/2007

Underground punk author Dennis Cooper (Closer, Frisk) has recruited the Detroit Film Center (DFC) to produce a film trailer for his new literary anthology, "Userlands: New Fiction Writers from the Blogging Underground"

DFC's Brandon Walley lead the charge on the film project, seeing it as an opportunity to connect underground literature with transgressive cinema.

A collection of sexually transgressive stories from more than thirty international writers, the stories were culledfrom writers Cooper encountered on his blog.

Cooper is the author of eight novels, is a contributing editor at Artforum Magazine and owns the oublishing imprint Little House. His work has been translated into 18 languages.

The "Userlands" trailer will premiere at the Detroit Film Center this Saturday evening as part of a multimedia event that includes readings by several of the anthology's writers, live electronic music from Perspects and a video installation by Dave Hebb.

At midnight Steven Hanley's film "Hands Away," will be screened after the trailer. Hanley is one of the writers featured in "Userlands."

The event will be held at Detroit Film Center on Saturday, March 17 at 8pm. Midnight movie to follow
