Spring Fling: Alternative craftspeople and artists will set up shop at Ferndale pool hall

The Loving Touch
April 4 Noon - 7 p.m.

The handmade, arts & crafts revolution is upon us. Is it ever. People are making trinkets and baubles of every imaginable shape and size all across the country. But people like Comfortably Lovely's Shannon McCarthy say that the bigger events have forgotten what a do it yourself ethic and community means, concentrating on money and notoriety instead of what the growing trend is supposed to be about.

Spring Fling, a Craft Thing was created to change that. To show that one person can put on a show with little to no money. Instead of charging artists & craftspeople $40 (like some other fairs do), this one is done with little money, a lot of heart, and with the constant help and excitement from all of the vendors involved. They don't have to be turned down by other groups for social reasons. A D.I.Y. community is sharing ideas, thoughts and energy. Spring Fling should be an exciting and rewarding experience for all involved. And something different for the usual and non-usual craft fair shoppers.

Saturday, April 4, noon - 7 p.m., at the Loving Touch, 22634 Woodward Avenue,  Ferndale. Owned by the proprietors of the WAB and The Emory, and producers of the D.I.Y. Street Fair, the Loving Touch is not an average pool hall. It has an atrium, greenery and gorgeous wood décor.

Spring Fling is free and open to all ages. Some of the vendors include Bettula, Brash Design, Chain Chain Chained, City Bird, Comfortably Lovely, Jennifer Joy Creative, Kill Taupe, La Femme Monkita, Sean Hages, the Silent Giants, Space Age Love and Talking Squid.

Music will be provided during the entire show by DJs Daniel, Ryan Allen (Friendly Foes and Thunderbirds are Now!), and JRC of Eat This City).
