Auction looks to bring opportunity for rehabilitation in downtown Ypsilanti

Cool historic building going once... going twice...

People looking to renovate historic downtown storefronts will get a chance to jump into that market headfirst at noon on May 19 when three downtown Ypsilanti storefronts are auctioned off.

The three storefronts, 211-215 W. Michigan Ave., are mostly vacant and in need of some significant restoration. However, the right entrepreneur could resurrect as part of the revival that downtown Ypsilanti has experienced in recent years.

The buildings, built in the 1800s, contain 22,000 square feet of both ground-floor retail and second and third-floor residential space. They are eligible for historic and energy tax credits. There has been an increasing demand for residential apartment or condo space in downtown Ypsilanti in recent years to accompany its thriving nightlife. The properties are currently for sale for $575,000.

The current private owner decided to auction the properties through Ann Arbor-based Sperry Van Ness/Lillie & Associates to ensure a quick sale. For information, call (734) 663.6694 or visit www.garylillie.com.
