Ann Arbor's Sculpture Plaza is about to have some more definition added to it on Monday when city workers begin renovating it.
The city and the DDA are investing about $200,000 into the public space at Catherine, Fourth and Detroit streets in Kerrytown. The improvements include new trees, new street lighting, new bike racks, relaying of bricks, repairing the plaza's main sculpture and replacing tables and chairs. The plaza will be closed until construction is finished in a month.
The city opened the plaza 30 years ago. It is centered on the 18-foot-tall Herberling Sculpture, created by former Ann Arbor artist David Herberling. The plaza and sculpture serve as a link for pedestrians between downtown and Kerrytown.
