All development proposals aren't approved by Ann Arbor's City Council.
The Council rejected plans for a new five-story residential building and Elks Lodge on Sunset Road after numerous nearby residents complained the project didn't fit into the character neighborhood.
The Elks Lodge for the Ann Arbor area proposed building an 85,227-square foot, L-shaped residential building on the 2.5-acre site of its current lodge, 220 Sunset. It sits adjacent to Bluffs Park near North Main Street north of downtown. A 4,752-square foot Elks Lodge building was also proposed for the front of the property.
The 37-unit building would have had underground parking and a 13,500-square foot green roof. Most of the homes in the neighborhood are one- or two-story buildings. The Elks proposed tearing down their current building, which they have been meeting at since 1956, to make way for the new development. Now they are debating what to do next.
