It's not often that Dexter can claim it's home to the world's largest... well, anything. And yet, homegrown ReCellular is just that: the largest electronics sustainability company on the planet, recycling and refurbishing 500, 000 cell phones a month!
Employing over 500 people, ReCellular started out as a cell phone rental company in the early 1990s but switched to recycling when the phones became more of a disposable commodity.
It was a smart move, the company now recycles and refurbishes millions of cell phones each year and has more than 50 percent of the market share with nearly $50 million in revenues.
Inc. magazine recently named it one of its "Green 50" --the top U.S. companies that are environmentally friendly and 50% annual growth has ReCellular expecting to add another 50-60 positions by the end of the year.
