"In the next year to 18 months we will probably double the size of the company again," says Jim Michels, vice president of marketing and sales for ANXeBusiness.

That's up from the 90 people Southfield-based ANXeBusiness currently employs. In 1999 they had just a staff of 20. But you acquire a quartet of smaller companies, cultivate your own growth and you're on your way to market dominance.

Originally part of an initiative to streamline information sharing between car manufacturers and their suppliers, ANX has since evolved its product lineup beyond the automotive sector, expanding into the healthcare and retail market.

It's all part of the "diversify or die" mantra.

To wit, the company also has offices in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina, Philadelphia, Cleveland, San Diego and Toronto.
